About us: Franklin Street Harm Reduction is a peer based non-profit 501(3)(c) focused on providing recovery support to people ages 18 and up, who are navigating substance use and mental health recovery. We are passionate about applying harm reduction to every facet of recovery. We partner with SMART Recovery and Wildflower Alliance for our group modalities and for our staff training.
About the Role:
Our Harm Reduction Support Specialists will support individuals over 18 who are navigating mental health and/or substance use recovery. We are a peer-based, harm reduction-focused, 501(c)(3) non-profit. Staff will facilitate support groups, provide individual support, distribute harm reduction supplies in the community to encampments and local partners, and engage with participants in the Franklin Street Harm Reduction (FSHR) drop-in resource center. The Harm Reduction Support Specialists will:
· Facilitate support groups for up to 12 participants, ages 18 and up. Groups include Smart Recovery, Alternatives to Suicide, Hearing Voices, art, games, and more. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive space for individuals to share experiences and offer each other support.
· Provide one-on-one individual support for participants, based on individualized needs. Use a peer-based approach to support individuals navigating substance use and/or mental health recovery. Support participants with goal setting, safety planning, and navigating the multiple barriers of community resources.
· Engage in community outreach to local encampments and in-reach support with community partners, including, but not limited to, attending events, educating the community about harm reduction principles, and advocating for broader acceptance and understanding of people in all stages of substance use and mental health recovery.
· Partner with external agencies that provide outreach services to the local community. Our teams help to distribute harm reduction supplies and provide local resources.
· Welcome and support participants during drop-in resource hours, making referrals and helping those individuals connect to services such as housing, healthcare, mental health support, and whatever else they identify as a need.
· Support all other providers in the FSHR building. This includes collaborating, making referrals, supporting inventory deliveries, and being a good neighbor.
· Complete other duties as assigned by the Operations Director and Board of Directors.

We are a fair chance employer, and we welcome staff with lived experience. We are seeking applicants who view recovery through a harm reduction lens, have effective and compassionate de-escalation skills, and have a strong understanding of trauma-informed care and trauma resiliency.
