WRCC is part of Latah Recovery Community Center, doing business as Whitman Recovery Community Center in Washington state. We are a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) operating as a peer-to- peer recovery organization, primarily funded through the Healthcare Authority in Washington state. Peer Specialist/Program Manager

General Information:

This is an exempt position that reports directly to the director of the Whitman Recovery Community Center.

Summary:

The Peer Specialist/Program Manager is an exempt FTE, working 40 hours per week, with some variability in their schedule. The longevity of this position depends upon the continued availability of funding. Candidates must bring personal lived experience in recovery to ensure our programs remain authentic, empathetic, and grounded in real-world understanding.

Job Summary:

The position serves a critical role in the success of Whitman Recovery Community Center. This position is for a certified peer specialist or for someone who is actively working to become certified. This position will provide coaching, engagement and supportive services to WRCC participants utilizing case management, recovery support, and collaboration with local community partners, service providers, housing providers and other community resources. The position will work in collaboration with Whitman County Recovery Navigators who may be on site at the WRCC location. This position will also recruit and manage WRCC volunteers and work with them to navigate the tiered volunteer program. Additionally, this position will develop recovery programming for participants, including recruitment of 12 step groups to hold meetings on site, development of life skills classes, and maintenance of programming calendar and publicity for the WRCC.

Volunteerism is at the core of what the recovery community center does and central to the behavioral health recovery community we are building. We have a program tying increasing levels of training to increasing levels of responsibility for our peer volunteers. Our program uses a parallel structure of staff working with dedicated peer volunteers in behavioral health recovery at all levels: governance, program, coaching, fundraising, etc.

Duties related to volunteerism and program development:

This position will focus on improving recruitment, coordination, tracking, and training of all volunteers providing direct services to WRCC peers. This includes group and single person recruitment efforts. The coordinator will take the lead in identifying needed volunteer duties, recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers for regular duties. This person will also take a leadership position in conjunction with the WRCC director in grant writing for other initiatives to grow our volunteer programs. Specific duties include:

1) Identify needed volunteer positions.

2) Target and recruit volunteers from throughout the community.

3) Assess and document the Whitman Recovery Community Center’s needs for volunteer efforts on an on-going basis.

4) Work with the Director, and other staff on the development of programs related to new and existing center programs.

5) Pursue ongoing personal training in the areas of mental health and substance use disorders.

6) Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position shall be responsible for the recruitment and scheduling of volunteers and interns. This effort may involve the supervision of bachelor level student interns working with WRCC participants, or other volunteers related to the Whitman Recovery Community Center.

Duties related to peer specialist focus:

· Must share lived experience of recovery, or the Criminal Justice System, support the use of recovery tools and model successful recovery behaviors.

· Assist referred individuals in the process of recovery, help them build resilience, and provide hope that recovery is possible.

· Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from behavioral health disorders in ways that are specific to the needs of each individual.

· Advocate for the individual served with recovery support services, legal system and other community resources.

· Provide information and training in appropriate life skills.

· Assist in the development of information and support networks; connect with peers and community.

· Ability to utilize computer systems at WRCC and Latah Recovery Center.

· Comply with supervisory directive and WRCC/LRC policies and procedures.

· Communicate effectively with team members and community resource providers.

· Maintain confidentiality at all times and conduct self professionally and ethically.

· Demonstrate ongoing initiative and a “can do” attitude.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have lived experience with substance use disorder, and/or the criminal justice system, and/or mental health and be at least 21 years of age.

2. Possess a high school degree or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral science preferred.

3. Experience working with Community Behavioral Health preferred.

4. Must have one year of active recovery and be able to demonstrate it.

5. Must be a certified Peer Specialist or actively working toward certification and understand implementation of recovery principles.
