Pay Range: $20 to $23 per hour (DOE/DOQ)

Hours per Week: 40 hours

Workdays: Monday to Friday 8-5

JOB PURPOSE: As part of the Trueblood settlement, the Certified Peer Support Specialist in the Outpatient Competency Restoration Program (OCRP) provides recovery-oriented, trauma-informed support to individuals who have been found not competent to stand trial and are receiving restoration services in an outpatient community setting. Drawing from lived experience with behavioral health challenges and the legal system, the Peer Specialist walks alongside participants, builds trusting relationships, models recovery, and promotes engagement in treatment and court-ordered services. This role supports participants in navigating systems, developing self-advocacy skills, and building stability while promoting self-determination and wellness as they work toward regaining competency and achieving their recovery goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Draw on common experiences as a person with lived experience to validate participants' experiences and provide empowerment, guidance, and encouragement to participants to take responsibility and actively engage in their own recovery.
Provide outreach and engagement to establish connections with individuals who are identified as the priority population for this program.
Meet participants where they are physically and mentally at to engage in conversation and support program engagement.
Develop trusting relationships with participants, promote a sense of self-direction and self-advocacy, and help the participant plan how they will successfully manage their life.
Support participants in engaging with the OCRP curriculum, including assisting with understanding program materials, completing assignments, and practicing skills that promote restoration and recovery.
Provide encouragement and peer-based support to help participants prepare for court, including practicing attendance, communication, and self-advocacy skills in alignment with their restoration goals.
Provides ongoing assessment, problem-solving, side-by-side services, skill teaching, support, and environmental adaptations to assist clients with daily living activities.
Provides coaching in a variety of areas designed to help the participant attain and maintain the highest level of independence, even during periods of instability. Activities may include, but are not limited to, problem-solving, companionship, transportation and medication prompting.
Provides side-by-side support, coaching, and encouragement to help participants socialize, going with a participant to community activities, including activities offered by consumer-run peer support organizations.
Organizes and leads individual and group social and recreational activities to help participants structure their time, increase social experiences, and provide opportunities to practice social skills.
Develop and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with other social services providers, crisis stabilization facilities, crisis responders, evaluation and treatment facility staff, DSHS workers, substance use disorder treatment providers, mental health providers, health care providers, shelter providers, landlords, harm reduction resources, withdrawal management program, protective or representative payees, and other community programs which may support participants.
Use his or her own lived experience of recovery from addiction/mental illness plus skills learned in formal training to deliver services to eligible participants.
Tracks, maintains, and submits data and reports as required.
Maintains familiarity with and handles participant information in accordance with Federal Regulations (42 CFR, Part 2), the Revised Code of Washington (RCW 71.05.390 and RCW 71.24), and other applicable laws pertaining to confidentiality of participant and staff information.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum High School Diploma/GED

Licensure/Certifications (assistance provided):

Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration (assistance provided)
Certified Peer Support Specialist

Experience:

The Peer Counselor has experience as a recipient of mental health services, lived experience with homelessness, legal involvement, substance use and other identified barriers and is willing to use and share their personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight to benefit the team and program participants.
Minimum of 1-year experience working as a Certified Peer Counselor
Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Other Requirements:

Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
Must pass pre-employment drug test and background check
Proof of vaccinations: MMR, Hep B, Tdap, and recent flu shot
